Tseminyu: 15 trained under Skill Training of Rural Youth program

Tseminyu, October 8 (MExN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Tseminyu in association with State Agricultural Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad organised a programme under Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) in town hall, Tseminyu from October 2 to 7.

Altogether 15 youths attended the training which was conducted on ‘Post-harvest processing and packaging of fruits and vegetables.’ 

During the inaugural, Dr Ithika C Swu, Deputy Project Director (ATMA), in his keynote address highlighted that the training was aimed at imparting skill-based training to rural youth on agri-based vocational areas in agriculture & allied areas for creation of skilled manpower and generate entrepreneurs and employment of rural youths.

The resource person, Khatemenla, Block Technology Manager spoke on post-harvest losses, reasons on developing value-added products, types of preservation, types of pickles, steps involved in pickling, sterilization of bottles, filling, packaging and marketing. Hands-on demonstration was conducted on the topic “Indigenous mixed vegetable pickle preparation”. 

Sharon Kent, Assistant Technology Manager trained the youths on preparation of pineapple jam and squash. The technicalities involved were appraised to the youths for scientific approach towards the preparation and marketing of the products.

Kebegi Kent, Assistant Technology Manager also trained the participants to prepare cakes and biscuits from millet flour. The participants were made aware of the nutritional benefits and global demand of millets. 

In the valedictory programme, Project Director (ATMA) and District Agricultural Officer Tseminyu, Ruovilhou Tseibu Rulho, encouraged the youths to utilize the opportunity to develop their skills and aim to generate income out of it. All trainees were awarded certificates.
