Will not accept any proposal outside parameters of Framework Agreement: NSCN (IM)

Dimapur, March 14 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) on Sunday reiterated its position in the Indo-Naga political talks.

In a statement issued through its MIP, the NSCN (IM) stated that in view of the “unacceptable posturing of Indian authorities at the Indo-Naga negotiation,” it is constrained to let the people know what has been transpiring across the desk with the Government of India (GoI).

Stating that it has been more than five years since the signing of the Framework Agreement on August 3, 2015, the NSCN (IM) said that the FA is in public domain now.

It clearly acknowledges that the Indo-Naga conflict is Political and nothing else, it stated.

“Both sides have agreed to put this violent conflict to an end once and for all by solving the problem on the basis of Shared-Sovereignty (sharing of sovereign power) by respecting people’s sovereign right,” it said.

It expressed confidence that India and Nagaland would enter into a new “enduring and inclusive relationship of peaceful co-existence of the two entities.”

“One is not within the other; one is not completely away from the other either. Both shall remain together as two entities as agreed upon,” it further stated.

The NSCN (IM) expressed gratitude to the government under the leadership of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee which recognized the “unique history and political situation of the Nagas in July 2002.”

It maintained that historically, politically or culturally, Nagas do not have anything in common with India. “But unfortunately, some Indian leaders are twisting and misinterpreting our unique history and situation,” the NSCN (IM) said.

While other States and people may also have their own unique culture, politically all of them had joined the Independent union of India in the 1940s of their own choice, it maintained.

However, in the case of the Nagas, it is not so, it asserted.

The NSCN (IM) also claimed a ‘deliberate misinterpretation’ of the Naga political identity as ‘cultural’ and said that it amounted to distortion of the agreed two entities which is “never acceptable to the Nagas.”

“It must also be clear that this violent conflict was not initiated by the Nagas. Nagas are the aggrieved, not the aggressor,” it stated. In spite of the bloody past and bitterness, Nagas have agreed to resolve the problem and reconcile with the Government of India by sharing sovereign power and enter into a new relationship for peaceful co-existence of the two entities, the NSCN (IM) said.

As agreed within the Framework Agreement, both the parties are required to work out the details and execution plans for early implementation.

“Therefore, any formulation or proposal from any quarter which is outside the parameter of the Framework Agreement shall not be acceptable to the NSCN in particular and the Naga people in general,” the NSCN (IM) asserted.

It urged the GoI to be more positive and sincere.
