Dimapur, August 13 (MExN): Commending the resilience of the people of Eastern Nagaland, MLA and Advisor Sericulture and Co-operation, Azheto Zhimomi said today that despite relatively lacking in infrastructure and other developments compared to other districts, the character of the people cannot be discounted.  Addressing the 21st general conference of the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (ENSUD) in Dimapur today, Zhimomi said  throughout known history of Nagas, the constituent tribes of Eastern Nagaland with their rich culture and traditional are known for their courage and toughness. He sensed that the people of the region are going through rapid changes while wrestling with the socio-economic political issues, and hoped the best for them.
Further elucidating on the theme of the conference  ‘self introspection,’ Zhimomi said that making assessment of one’s strength and weakness; success and failure; omission and commission, would enable an individual to understand himself better; adding that it is positive step towards progress. Also with the changing access to information technology and our dependency on the tools of technology, people must not discard the core values and traditions. He urged the students to put their attitude of winners and set their goals straight to be responsible for the future.
L Leyang Khiamniungan, Executive Engineer of PHED also exhorted the students. He said the need for ‘self retrospection’ encompasses two most important virtues- integrity and justice. Without integrity the society and its people will falter, he said while encouraging the students to imbibe integrity. “If you don’t have integrity it will affect you and others as well.” He also underscored the need for justice which is the tool for progress. He said: “without justice there can be no peace; without peace there can be no unity, and without unity here can be no progress. All these are the seeds of integrity which cannot be acquired but must be cultivated.”
Representative of the Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation also exhorted the students. The election committee appointed by the ENSUD introduced the new team of office bearers for the tenure 2011 to 2013. The Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Phom, Sangtam and Yimchunger Student Unions of Dimapur represent the constituent units of ENSUD.
