First Wokha Pex-2023 District Philatelic Exhibition underway

Wokha, September 1 (MExN): The Department of Posts Nagaland will shortly open 70 new branch offices in the state. Wokha district will also receive a new postal office which will cover all sectors including financial services, and help resolve unbanked and under bank in rural areas/villages. This was informed by Som Kamei, IPoS, Postmaster General, North East–II during the first Wokha Pex-2023 district philatelic exhibition held at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha on September 1.

The inaugural of two-day event was graced by Som Kamei as the chief guest and Nuhutu Tunyi, NCS, SDO (Civil) as the special guest.

Som Kamei briefed the gathering about how postal came to use and how stamp collection became important to the people.

 “Stamp collections are like a window to the world for the younger generation as every country has its own stamps and usages, and it acts as a source of information,” he stated.

Kamei informed that to reduce problems related to custom duty the state has five centers one in Kohima, Jalukie, Phek, Dimapur and Mokokchung where they can easily import and export internationally (an export felicitation), and in a few months Wokha will have its services that will benefit the community.

Meanwhile he urged the staff of Wokha post to make the DCDP campaign a success in educating and bringing more awareness and benefits that the department can provide services to the people.

Addressing the gathering, Nuhutu Tunyi said, “philatelic is not only collecting stamps but it helps in preserving and sharing stories with the generation.” Lauding the department of India Post for their efforts in serving the people, he wished them to continue the good services with dedication. 

He also encouraged the participants, school students to give their best and avail the facilities in knowing the importance and services provided through India post. “Collection of stamps involves creativity,” he said while calling to give best effort in making the programme a success and benefit to all the participants.

L Tiken Singh, Superintendent of Posts, Nagaland Postal Division gave the welcome address. 

Six schools namely Don Bosco HSS, Regimental School, Isaiah Ability School, Fernbrook School, Little Angel School and Government HSS, Wokha were awarded a certificate for setting up Philatelic club in their respective schools.

The India Post also provides scholarships to students through Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana for students studying in class 7 to 9 with good academic records and a member of Philatelic club, where they can avail the benefits after sitting an exam, it was informed.

Som Kamei along with Nuhutu Tunyi unveiled the exhibition hall of stamp design contest, letter writing competition and exhibition of Philatelic collections. The displays were put up for the visitors where various school students put up a display of their artistic creativity and stamp collections.

Kevikhrielie Kirha chaired the inaugural event while special songs and cultural presentation were made by students of DBHSS, Wokha and Tchunnungrotchu Cultural Group, Wokha.
