Kohima, May 19 (MExN): One person succumbed to injury following an incident alleged to be a case of violent road rage, which occurred in Kohima on May 18. In this connection, two persons were arrested by the Kohima Police.
As per a press release from the Kohima Police, the North Police Station Kohima first received the report on Saturday evening, informing that an elderly person has been hospitalised in a private hospital following a physical assault by some individuals in the aftermath of a vehicular traffic-related scuffle.
The police identified the victim as Kezhalelie Lawrence, who later succumbed to his injuries. Accordingly, a criminal case has been registered U/S 323/325/352/302 IPC in North Police Station and two individuals identified as Neizosetuo Kire (24 yrs) and Khrietsonyü Whuorie (25 yrs) have been arrested, the police added.
The incident reportedly occurred at Phoolbari Bus/Taxi Stand junction at around 4:40 PM.
Meanwhile, the Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO) has called for a public rally on Monday to show its resentment against what it termed as “murder” of one of its members, who was a PA to the Deputy Commissioner. The WAYO identified the two accused as residents of Kohima village.
In this connection, the Organisation appealed to all the Western Angami citizens to join the public rally, which will commence at 10:00 am at the Paramedical junction, Kohima, and then proceed to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, for submitting a memorandum.
It further requested all concerned to assemble at the designated place before 9:30 am. The Southern Angami Frontal Organisation also called for joining the public rally organised by WAPO.
The Mezomia Mechü Kehou/Mezomia Citizens Forum (MMK) also expressed anguish over what it described as an “inhuman act” by the two accused individuals. As per the MMK, the duo resorted to hitting the victim “over no issue” and even his son was also allegedly assaulted when he “went to save his father.”
The MMK described the deceased victim as an upright person, who was serving as the forum’s president and working as PA to the DC, Kohima. “Taking away his life can never be compromised nor accepted,” it asserted, while demanding the law enforcing agencies to immediately take up the matter and punish the culprits under relevant laws of the law. “No bail should be permitted and that no individual/group should try bailing out the two culprits at any cost,” it cautioned.
“The Mezomia citizens have lost one of its finest leaders and we pray that his innocent soul rests in eternal peace. We shall fight until justice is delivered,” the MKK added.
Minister for Minister, Women Resource Development & Horticulture Salhoutuonuo Kruse also expressed sadness and condemned the incident as a “deplorable act of violence that has robbed our community of a respected leader.”
The victim’s son also sustained injuries in the incident, the Minister said.
She further urged the law enforcement agencies to immediately investigate the matter and ensure that the culprits are brought to justice without delay.
“My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of the deceased, and I pray that the Almighty grants them the strength to cope with this unimaginable loss,” Kruse added.
