Kohima, June 8 (MExN): A delegation of the Ex-Servicemen League Nagaland (ESMLN), led by its President, Veteran Maj Vikuto Asumi (Retd), met Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav at Raj Bhavan on June 8 and apprised him of various issues affecting ex-servicemen in the state.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted several concerns and sought the Governor's intervention on matters related to the welfare of ex-servicemen.

According to the ESMLN, the delegation raised issues concerning alleged deviations from appointment protocols and the extension of service tenure for existing employees. It also expressed concern over the non-conduct of officer and staff selection processes in the Rajya Sainik Board (RSB) and Zila Sainik Boards (ZSBs), despite recruitment advertisements having been published in local newspapers in February 2025.

The delegation further sought intervention in the implementation of a Police Headquarters order dated November 6, 2003, which provides for a five per cent reservation for ex-servicemen in the Police Department.

The ESMLN also pointed to the non-conduct of Annual RSB and Amalgamated Special Fund meetings in Nagaland since January 2020, stating that the absence of these meetings had adversely affected the welfare of ex-servicemen.

Healthcare-related challenges were also raised during the meeting. The delegation highlighted the lack of empanelled private hospitals under the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) in Nagaland, which it said compels ex-servicemen to travel to other states to access better medical facilities.

To address the issue, the ESMLN suggested adopting a model similar to that followed in Gujarat, under which private hospitals are encouraged or required to empanel with ECHS while obtaining or renewing licences.

The delegation additionally requested special provisions for the issuance of gun licences to ex-servicemen, stating that such a measure would help them seek re-employment in the security sector and ensure self-protection.

The Governor gave a patient hearing to the delegation's representations and assured all possible support, the ESMLN said.

Maj Asumi expressed gratitude to the Governor for his time and positive response to the issues raised, and reaffirmed the League's commitment to extending assistance whenever required.
