BJP Nagaland condemns vandalism of church in W Bengal

Dimapur, July 10 (MExN): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nagaland, on Friday condemned the alleged vandalism and desecration of the Presbyterian Church of India at Subhasgram under Sonarpur Police Station in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district and demanded a fair investigation into the incident.

In a statement, the party described the July 5 incident as an unacceptable act of violence and intimidation against the Christian minority in a secular country.

The BJP Nagaland urged the West Bengal government to ensure accountability wherever wrongdoing is established while safeguarding the constitutional rights and dignity of all citizens.

It said justice should be based on facts, evidence and due process of law.

The party maintained that acts of vandalism were unlawful and irresponsible regardless of religious affiliation, and said no organisation or institution was above the law.

It called for all allegations related to the incident to be investigated thoroughly, fairly and transparently by the competent authorities.

Expressing solidarity with the Bangiya Christiya Pariseba (Bengal Christian Council), the party demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible, an impartial investigation, enhanced security for minority institutions and churches, and early delivery of justice.

The BJP Nagaland also said it would continue to raise its voice against incidents involving the vandalism or desecration of places of worship and statements targeting members of the Christian community across the country.
