Longleng, October 10 (MExN): The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Longleng, conducted a training programme on oyster mushroom cultivation at Dungkhao village in Longleng district on October 9 to promote mushroom farming as a sustainable livelihood and income-generating activity for rural households.
The training was conducted by Shubhendu Kumar Behera, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) at ICAR-KVK Longleng. Dr Kalu Ram, SMS, ICAR-KVK, provided technical guidance on post-harvest handling, processing and value addition to minimise losses and enhance farmers’ income.
The programme was organised under the guidance of the Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR-KVK Longleng.
Heads of all nine self-help groups (SHGs) in the village and the village council chairman participated in the programme to support the wider dissemination of mushroom cultivation technology.
The SHG heads will share the knowledge and skills acquired during the training with other interested farmers, facilitating the transfer of technology through farmer-to-farmer learning.
Farmers actively participated in the programme, raised queries and expressed keen interest in adopting oyster mushroom cultivation. Their response highlighted the potential of mushroom farming to strengthen rural livelihoods, promote entrepreneurship and support SHG-led income generation.
The programme was facilitated by Y Molim Phom, village council chairman of Dungkhao, whose support and cooperation ensured its smooth organisation and active community participation.
Participants expressed gratitude to ICAR-KVK Longleng for providing technical training and guidance.
