ANCSU to hold ‘peaceful dharna’ in Kohima today

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 17 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) today informed that it would be organizing a peaceful dharna on December 18 outside the Nagaland Chief Minister’s official residence at Kohima for non-fulfillment of the four charters of demands made by ANCSU.

It may be noted that the ANCSU memorandum letter vide NO.ANCSU-CM/MEMO-1/2017-19 was submitted on December 12 seeking the CM’s attention to take stock of the situation and deliver justice to the students’ community. However, it lamented that the state government has not reacted or shown any concern towards the cause till date. “It is a slap and insult to the students’ community for turning deaf ear towards the cause of the students’ community and Naga society in general.”

It informed that the ANCSU has also reminded the office of the Chief Minister through print media “since we could not communicate or meet the state government.”

“Yet again the state government chose to remain silent on the issue concerning the society in general,” it regretted. The state government, the ANCSU reminded, had assured the students community on December 17 that the government will take positive steps to pay the remaining scholarship amount to the beneficiaries for the year 2016-17.

It recalled that the ANCSU had demanded to the state government to make alternative arrangements for the payment of Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) for 2016-17 and had also appealed to the government with three other demands for the welfare and benefit of the students’ community.

The other three demands included setting up a separate cell/Nodal department to implement all scholarship schemes; revocation of the 26th October 2017 P& AR Office memorandum; and revocation of the 11th August 2016 P& AR OM.

“But as a matter of fact, there is no initiative taken by the state government as assured,” it said.

Henceforth, with no positive response and initiative made by the state government, the ANCSU called upon all the concerned citizens, well wishers and college students around Kohima to join the peaceful dharna outside the Chief Minister’s official residence on December 18.

“All the concerned citizens, well wishers and college students are requested to gather at PHQ Junction (BOC) Kohima at 8:00am sharp and later all will proceed towards the CM’s residence,” it informed.

Part of second scholarship installment released: Govt

Meanwhile the state government today in a letter to the ANCSU informed that the centre has released part of the second installment of Rs six crore one lakh for post matric scholarship on December 13 and that sanction order has already been released.

Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister, Abhishek Singh informed that the balance of the second installment was to be released after the state government published the list of students who have been given 1st installment on the website of the state government. It informed that the list is now available on the website of the Department of Higher Education and the centre has assured release of the balance of the second installment by December 19.

The statement assured that the department is taking all necessary steps to ensure that the sanctioned amount is credited to the bank accounts of the students without delay. Regarding the demand for revocation of P&AR OM dated, October 26, 2017 and August 11, 2016, the government informed that these issues would be taken up in the next cabinet meeting.
