Ao Spelling Bee competition underway

Morung Express News Mokokchung | July 29   A Kohima based Ao vernacular magazine Lenjeter in association with the Department of Linguistics, Nagaland University, Kohima is organizing an inter-school Ao spelling bee competition which got underway here today at Cosmos Hall.  

A total of 35 students representing 13 schools are participating in the competition. Editor of the Lenjeter Magazine, Peralepzung while launching the competition said that this competition was organized with the objective of promoting Ao literature and ‘uniformity’ of Ao zülumen or spelling. He also acknowledged the contribution of Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for Geology & Mining, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier in making the competition, the first ever Ao spelling bee, a reality.   Wati Ozüküm, Imtipokyim and Toshisangla are the panel of judges while Dr. Pangersenla and Dr. Imlienla Imchen from the Department of Linguistics, Nagaland University, Kohima are overseeing the whole process of the competition.   The competition is a two-day affair. On the first day today, top 20 participants were selected in the preliminary stage of the competition out of which 10 moved on to the next round. Out of the top 10, the top 5 would move on to the quarterfinal round to be held tomorrow. The top 3 would be selected to move on to the semi-final and only 2 would make it to the final tomorrow.   Tomorrow, the Executive Secretary of ABAM, Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger will make a special appearance and deliver an exhortation. Lenjeter Magazine is also expected to make an announcement tomorrow regarding their sponsorship program for selected Ao language students.
