Assam Rifles apprehend five; seize arms and ammunition

Dimapur, February 19 (MExN): Assam Rifles apprehended one NSCN (R) cadre, two of his accomplices and two “OGWs” (Over Ground Workers) of NSCN (K) in two different operations in Dimapur on February 16. 95 rounds of assorted live ammunition, four mobiles and other “warlike stores” were also recovered, according to a press release from Assam Rifles.   The release said that the first operation was conducted on Sukhovi Road based on information regarding move of NSCN (R) cadres. As part of the operation, three suspected individuals were intercepted and spot search was carried out, during which, one illegal weapon with magazine was recovered. One of the apprehended persons identified himself as Maithi Sema (38), an active cadre of NSCN (R). He admitted he had brought the weapon for sale to a potential customer along with his accomplices, identified as Kiyeho (32) and Tokihe Sema (31), the release informed.   The second operation was launched jointly by 37 Assam Rifles and 32 Assam Rifles based on information regarding likely presence of “Over Ground Workers” (OGWs) of NSCN (K) in a house at Rengma Colony, Walford. During the operation, the suspected house was cordoned and searched, which led to apprehension of two OGWs belonging to NSCN (K) along with recovery of one AK 47 Magazine, three 7.62mm SLR Magazines and 94 rounds of assorted live ammunition, Assam Rifles said.

  Meanwhile, on the same day, a third operation was carried out by 37 Assam Rifles and 32 Assam Rifles in Thilixu village based on information from multiple sources regarding presence of an armed Raja Peyu of NSCN (IM). One 9mm Pistol with magazine, one magazine of Point 22 Pistol and live ammunition were recovered from the house of the suspect. Stating that the NSCN (IM) cadre was absconding from his house, Assam Rifles said his family confirmed that the recovered items belonged to Atovi Achumi (36). The weapon was seized and handed over to Police since the same was being kept at the residence in contravention to the Ceasefire Ground Rules, the release added.
