LMCP Nagaland launches consumer awareness programme

Mon, May 31 (DIPR): A consumer awareness programme with the theme ‘An alert consumer is the need of the hour’ was organised at Council Hall, Mon Town by the Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection Department, Government of Nagaland, on May 30.  

Advisor, Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection (LMCP) and DUDA, N. Thongwang Konyak was the chief guest.  

In his opening remark, Joint Controller & Head of Department, LMCP Nagaland, Biso M. Kuotsu, emphasized on the need to be aware and exercise the rights of a consumer. He also informed that such state level programme on consumer awareness was organised for the first time since the inception of LMCP and credited the Advisor LMCP for such initiatives. He also emphasized on checking the MRP, seal, trade mark, manufacture and expiry date etc and cash memo while buying goods.  

Thanking the LMCP Department for organizing such awareness programme in Mon, President of Konyak Union, Manlip appealed to the gathering to learn, disseminate and exercise their rights legally and do away with the traditional practice of taking law into their own hands.  

The chief guest informed that the aim of organizing such program was to make people aware of their rights and responsibility. Under LMCP, he said, the consumer’s forums have been made active and awareness program will be conducted in all the districts to sensitize the masses.  

Stating that the people’s participation and support is a must for implementing any Act, Thongwang urged the people to learn their rights and responsibility and exercise their rights by bringing their grievances to their respective Consumer Redressal Forum for proper and full implementation of the Act. He also informed that there are only 30 Consumer Clubs/Societies in Nagaland.  

While speaking on the theme, President, Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum and District Judge Mon, Mayang Lima highlighted the historical background on the formation of the Consumer Rights Forum and redressal mechanism as per Consumer Protection Act. He also emphasized on the need to organize a consumer rights organization/society in the district.  

The programme was attended by members of Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum Mon, all HoDs, KU, KNSK, KSU, DB, Mon Town Chamber of Commerce, Ward GBs, Consumer Club from five schools, namely St. Mary’s School, Govt. High School ‘C’, Anghjong Mission School, Model School and Holy Cross School.
