Pre-monsoon activity likely to intensify in Nagaland: NSDMA

Kohima, April 25 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department updated on Thursday that the current weather conditions of heavy rainfall, accompanied by lightning, are expected to persist in the coming days, with likely intensification of pre-monsoon activity.

Thunderstorm and lightning with gusty wind speed 30 to 40 kmph is very likely to occur at in Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Zunheboto, Kiphire, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Mon and Longleng from April 26-29, it informed. 

Accordingly, the NSDMA advised taking necessary precautionary measures during such weather condition and remain alert for disruption in communication and connectivity due to lightning strikes and gale winds.

Meanwhile, the Authority further stated that due to the likelihood of excessive rain in the hill sector, Nagaland's lowland and foothill regions, including Dimapur, Nuiland, Chumukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit, and Tuli, may be impacted by inundated water logging and flash floods. 

In this connection, the NSDMA urged  the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities and also  requested all the District Disaster Management Authorities and other line departments to be on alert to save lives and properties.

The expected minimum and maximum temperature during this period will vary between 15˚-39˚ Celsius, it added.
