Basketball clinic for players, coaches, referees underway

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 8 (MExN): The basketball clinic organised by the Dorians Society in association with the Nagaland Basketball Association began today at the Dimapur Government College basketball court.   As per the organisers, the two-day event is a comprehensive coaching camp for players, referees and coaches. 25 budding players signed up for the camp on the first day.   For the clinic, the organisers have roped in the expertise of two professional coaches and a referee with national and international experience.   One of the coaches, Satyabrata Nayak, who is presently the Indian Railways women’s team coach has a playing career spanning almost 20 years. Nayak played the senior nationals from 1992 to 2005.   Turning to coaching in 2010, he guided the Eastern Railways women’s team to third place at the All India Inter Railways Championship 2013-14, 2014-15 and Gold in 2015-16. Under his guidance, the Indian Railways women’s team finished third at the Senior National Championship 2016-17.   Amalendu Kumar Singh, currently the youth coach of West Bengal, has played the Junior International in 1992, the Senior Nationals from 1991 to 2011 and professional league in Dhaka from 1997-2009.   Atanu Banerjee, a professional International Basketball Federation (FIBA) referee, has officiated in several international tournaments. His career as referee include officiating at the under- 19 Asian Championship for Women in Bangkok (2007), Asian Champions Cup for men in Kuwait (2009), South East Asian Games in Jakarta (2014) etc.
