SVEEP activities encourage ethical, informed voting

Referring to Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities, CEO Abhijit Sinha addressing a press conference said several initiatives have been taken to increase the electoral participation of the voters as well as encourage ethical and informed voting.  

He said through SVEEP, it has been appealing parents/guardians for ethical and informed voting.  

Other initiative includes, appealing general voters for full turnout including ethical and informed voting, facilitation of PwD voters, octogenarian and older voters, pregnant women voters, women voters with babies in arms on poll day, wheel chairs for use by locomotor disabled voters, state and district icons disseminating ethical and informed voting messages, street play, jingles on radio, walkathon, human chains and regular advertisements in the print media on ethical and informed voting.

Alternative photo identity documents

Sinha informed that the ECI has directed that for the current general election to the legislative assembly of Nagaland, all electors who have been issued EPICs shall produce their EPICs for their identification at the polling station before casting their votes. Those electors who are not able to produce the EPIC shall have to produce one of the alternative photo identity documents for establishing their identity. It includes, passport, driving licence, service identity card, passbooks issued by bank/post office, PAN card, smart card issued by RGI under NPR, MNREGA job card, health insurance smart card, pension document, authenticated photo voter slip, official identity cards issued by MPs/MLAs/MLCs and Aadhaar card.  

Photo voter slips

CEO said in order to facilitate the voters to know the location of their polling stations and other details, voter slip bearing the photo of the elector is being distributed to all enrolled voters by the District Election Officers through the BLOs.  

Sinha said the size design and format of the photo voter slip has also been substantially improved, to enhance its utility and effectiveness in voter identification, awareness and guidance.  

The size of the image has been increase and additional information, along with polling station NazriNaksha (Map) on the reverse of the slip has been provided.  

Voter guide

Sinha said a voter guide brochure containing information on date and time of poll, contact details of the BLOs, important websites, helpline number, documents required for identification at the polling station, how to vote, EVM & VVPAT, facilities provided at the polling station besides other important information including Do’s and Don’ts for voters at the polling station have been printed in Nagamese and are being distributed to every household along with the Photo voter slips buy the BLOs.  

He said the Voter Guide will be distributed to 4, 20,000 households across the state.  

Nagaland election mobile application

CEO said the mobile application has been launched with the objective to provide voter facilitation services. The App is specifically developed to help a voter to verify his voter ID, locate polling stations, download Electoral Roll in pdf, candidate affidavit, election expenses etc.  

The App is made available for download in the Google Play Store and the website of the Chief Electoral Officer, www.ceonagaland.nic.in
