Chetheba Winter Open Basketball Challenge begins

Chetheba Town, December 19 (MExN): The 1st Winter Open Basketball tournament began at Chetheba local ground on Tuesday. The two day event is organised by Team Huskers.  

In the first semifinal match, D Ballers team from Kohima beat Team Mystic Ballers 46-36 to enter the finals. While Team Junior Runumole beat Team Huskers by 39-24 in the second semifinal match.  

D Ballers Kohima will face Team Junior Runumole in the final on Wednesday morning at 9 am here at the local ground.  

While in quater final matches, Team Junior Runumole beat Splash Brothers by 28-16 and D. Ballers beat Road Runners by 55-35.  

It may be mentioned the winner of the tournament walked home with a cash prize of Rs. 20,000. While the runners-up to received a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.  

Earlier, Zapose Dawhou, Associate pastor, Chetheba Town Baptist Church who attended the inagural session as the special guest lauded the initiative taken by the organising team and encouragement the playing team to play through sportsmanship. He also reminded that the event should not only be a tournament but also a platform to create friendship amoung the players.  

Sekhozo Rhakho, president Team Huskers in his welcome address said the team was formed in the year 2016 keeping in mind to commit themselves to social based activities in promoting peace and harmony. A total of 9 teams including three teams from Kohima district are participating in the tournament. The other participant team are Team Huskers, Team Riders, D. Ballers, Team Mystic Ballers, Team Road Runners, 90's Classic, Splash Brothers, Valiant.
