CIH Nagaland conduct farmer’s interface meet

Dimapur, October 10 (MExN): A farmer’s interface meet was organized by Central Institute of Horticulture, Nagaland at its campus in Medziphema on October 6 and 7.  

Alan Gonmei (IAS), Secretary (Horticulture), Government of Nagaland, the chief guest in his address, stressed on the importance of imparting employable skills in horticulture which would help in generating employment opportunities in the horticulture sector.  

Director, CIH, Dr. Lallan Ram, in his welcome address presented the progress and achievements of the Institute over the years. The keynote address was presented by Dr. NK Mohan, Chief Consultant CIH where as brief remarks were delivered by Dr. D J Rajkhowa, Jt. Director, ICAR Nagaland and Dr. NK Patle, Dy. Commissioner (Hort.), DAC&FW, Ministry of Agriculture & FW, New Delhi.   An exhibition programme was also organized where 13 exhibitors from different parts of North East exhibited their activities in horticulture. Alan Gonmei along with other dignitaries visited and interacted with the exhibitors.  

The event was marked by sharing of success stories by farmers, entrepreneurs and trainees promote by the Institute. Awards were distributed for the best demonstration plot and best accredited nursery. The certificates of skill development course on floriculture and nursery accreditation were distributed during the inaugural programme. NEZCC Dimapur sponsored two cultural troops and presented two cultural items during the programme.  

The interactive session with the farmers was held on October 17 where representatives of farmer groups and government department from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura participated in the meet. Dr. N K Patle, Dy. Comm. (Hort.), DAC&FW, Director CIH, Dr. Lallan Ram and Dr. NK Mohan, Chief Consultant CIH addressed to the queries and issues raised during the farmers meet.
