NHRA condemns Assam Police

DIMAPUR, MAY 1 (MExN): The Nagaland Hotel & Restaurant Association condemned the Assam Police for the “most brutal act” of “torturing and killing one of its member Hotels’ staffs, Mr. Supongtemjen.”
A press note from NHRA President, Vito Awomi, stated that Supongtemjen was “gallant and committed Security personnel, who was efficiently serving under the prestigious Saramati Hotel for many years.” NHRA prayed for the departed soul and his family and fervently appealed to the State Governments of both Assam and Nagaland, to give justice and also compensations to the bereaved family at the earliest.

UNTA condemns

The office of the United Naga Tribes Association, Dimapur, has vehemently condemned the brutal murder of Lt. Supongmeren Longkumer of Chuchuyimlang village by Assam Police on April 30 at the Assam-Nagaland border, adjacent to Aoyimkhum Village in Nagaland.
A press release from the Information Secretary, Thongo Konyak, and the General Secretary, Hukavi Yepthomi, stated “UNTA is anguished by the barbaric act of the armed Assam Police for taking laws in their hand to kill innocent Naga people without any rhyme and reason.”
Urging the State Government to “provide proper security to the people living along the said Border area who are being frequently harassed by the armed Assam police before any further situation goes out of proportion,” UNTA appealed to the governments of Assam and Nagaland to investigate the killing. UNTA also called for investigations at the random firing upon Nagas in the inter-state border areas by the armed Assam Personnel.
Meanwhile, UNTA extended condolences and solace to the bereaved family for the unfortunate and untimely demise of Lt. Supongmeren Longkumer and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
