Kohima, September 11 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, PB Acharya, Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang, and Member of Parliament Neiphiu Rio today mourned the demise of former Member of Parliament, Shyama Singh, who was also the wife of Nikhil Kumar, former Governor of Nagaland. She died in New Delhi at the age of 74. In a condolence message addressed to her husband, Nikhil Kumar, Governor Acharya described late Shyama Singh as a guiding pillar and a great support whose loving, caring and understanding persona could never be forgotten. Acharya also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the people of Nagaland and prayed that God grants strength and solace to bear the irreparable loss, stated a press release from PRO to the Governor. In a separate condolence message, Chief Minister TR Zeliang said Shyama Singh was not only a popular political leader but an outstanding social worker whose death is a major loss to the nation. “During the tenure of her husband Nikhil Kumar as Governor of Nagaland from 2009 to 2013, the people of Nagaland witnessed the presence of late Shyama Singh in the State whose contribution towards the welfare of the citizens of Nagaland will ever be cherished,” it added. Extending condolences, the CM prayed that God Almighty grant peace and solace to the bereaved family members, friends and colleagues. MP (Lok Sabha) Neiphiu said Shyama Singh was renowned not only as a politician but also as an outstanding social worker. “During her stay in Nagaland as the First Lady, I had the opportunity to interact with her on a number of occasions. She had a pleasant personality and I found her to be intelligent and well-versed with a variety of issues faced by the people of the country,” Rio recollected. In her demise, he said, the people of the nation have lost a great stateswoman, and the people of Nagaland will fondly cherish the memories of her stay in the State. On behalf of the people of Nagaland, Rio along with his wife and family extended heartfelt condolences to members of the bereaved family. “It is our steadfast prayer that Almighty God would grant you solace and strength to bear with this great loss,” the MP added in a condolence message addressed to Nikhil Kumar.
