Disburse post-matric scholarship immediately: ATSUM

Newmai News Network Imphal | November 5   The All Tribal Student Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has threatened to take up its own course of action if the “post-matriculation scholarship 2017-2918” is not given to all the deserving tribal students at the earliest.   According to the ATSUM, most of the students have not received the scholarship given by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.   “Procrastination in disbursal of post-matriculation scholarship 2017-2018 under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, for students studying in the State of Manipur and outside the State is a serious matter that should be looked into by the Treasury department,” said the ATSUM. The apex tribal student body said that it is “perturbed to learn that the file is being stuck up in the office of the Treasury department for quite a long time now”.   The tribal student body then said that when the tribal students studying within Manipur made hue and cry for the delay in disbursement of post-matriculation scholarship in the month of April 2018, it was disbursed in piece meal in April and September exclusively for students studying in the State of Manipur.   The ATSUM then said, “It is very unfortunate scholarship scheme that ought to be disbursed at the same time, in weeks or in a month’s time, to all the beneficiaries is yet to be credited to thousands of students studying in the State of Manipur and outside the State due to sheer negligence of the State Government.   The tribal student body then alleged that submission of application forms for both fresh and renewal are closed on October 22. “It is unbecoming of the State Government for having halted the file in the Treasury department instead of speeding up the process”, the ATSUM added.   Drawing the attention of the Chief Minister of Manipur, the tribal student body said that this press note should be treated as a reminder to address the issue at the earliest.
