Education institutes in Meghalaya to remain shut, Assembly postponed

Shillong, March 16 (NNN): All educational institutions will remain shut till March 31 in Meghalaya as a precautionary measure due to threat posed globally by the novel coronavirus even as the ongoing Assembly budget session has also been postponed.


No case of Coronavirus has been detected in Meghalaya so far.


On Monday, which was the second day of the budget session, the discussion on the threat being posed by the virus across the globe was discussed with members of the Assembly calling upon the state government to take immediate and drastic actions that can help prevent the virus from spreading.


Later, the Speaker announced that he had also chaired a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly, and it was decided to postpone the budget session, but there will a sitting only on March 19 to transact various important businesses.


In the evening, the state Education department issued an official notification, declaring closure of all educational institutes from March 17 to March 31 except holding of examinations being conducted by MBoSE, ICSE, NEHU, CBSE and other institutions.
The notification said that during the closure period, parents are advised to keep their wards away from visiting crowded places like cinema halls, public parks, tourism spots, swimming pools, gymnasium, shopping areas, hospitals or any other centres that are densely populated.
