Ekhyo Yan village celebrate golden jubilee

Ekhyo Yan (formerly Domokhia) village under Dimapur district celebrated its golden jubilee here at the village ground on November 17 with Nagaland deputy chief minister, Yanthungo Patton, as special invitee of the celebration.  

Addressing the gathering after unveiling the jubilee monolith, the deputy chief minister expounded on the meaning of jubilee and said a jubilee is a time to bury the hatchet of past misunderstanding and conflicts, to renew bondship among fellow villagers and to live in peaceful co-existence with neighbours.  

Patton said even as the village celebrate its 50 years of existence, the villagers must never forget their roots and stressed on importance of one’s native mother tongue to preserve one’s culture and identity.  

Patton also urged the villagers to always remember the contribution and sacrifices made by the pioneers of the village. Encouraging the youth to clear competitive exams like NPSC, he pledged to ward cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh each to any youth from the Lotha community who qualify for EAC and DSP posts. Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Limasunep Jamir, also graced the celebration.  

Convenor, golden jubilee history cum organizing committee, N Odyuo, in his brief report of Ekhyo Yan village history said the village was established in the year 1968 by 37 members and got officially recognized in 1996.  

Odyuo also said then Home minister of Nagaland, Yanthungo Patton, felicitated the change of village name from Domokhia to Ekhyo Yan in the year 2016. The village has at present 202 households, he added.  

Chairman, Lotha Hoho Dimapur, Etsungmomo Kikon also exhorted the villagers on the occasion.  

Other highlights of the celebration included a minute silence in remembrance of the village pioneers who passed away, presentation of folk dances and songs and jubilee feast.   Earlier, Ozamo Odyuo, delivered welcome address and head GB and convenor, finance committee, Lihao Patton, proposed vote of thanks.
