ENSU SJC Jakhama celebrate 25 yrs

The Eastern Naga Students’ Union, St. Joseph’s College Jakhama today celebrated its silver jubilee at Indoor Stadium, St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama.  

Speaking as the special guest, Y. Kikheto Sema, Secretary, Department of Land Resources graced the occasion said that all the people cannot be accommodated in the government job.  

He said Nagaland has the highest number of government employees in India, having a total of 1.40 lakh employees as against 61,000 of Manipur and 63,000 of Meghalaya. The state has more than 90,700 regular employees, around 22, 600 fixed pay employees consisting home guards & Village Guards including 14, 744 work charge employees.  

He stressed on the need to give importance on skill development and also asked the youth not to focus within the state alone but to go out and work outside the state too. Sema said every month the state government spends somewhere Rs. 390 crore on salary and last year the total amount spent on salary was Rs. 3850 crore and Rs. 1115 crore on pension.  

Stressing on the need to have unity among the Nagas, he said, “We cannot survive as a people of we do not have unity among ourselves. We can’t survive as a people if we do not have good relationship with our neighbours.” He said it is a time for Naga people to share and discuss what is right and what is wrong. He regretted that we talked about unity but in reality disunity exists. He also urged upon the gathering to make peace and not pieces. “Let us make peace, not pieces,” he said.  

He said it is time for the Naga people to forgive and forget each other of the past misdeeds and live together as one and follow the principle of “Unity is Strength.”  

Regretting that Nagas are suffering from mental sickness, he called upon the Naga people to clean mental room for a better future. He urged upon the students to uphold the good traditional value of forefathers and not to adopt other culture which are not good for Naga society.  

Also stressing on the need to bring a change in Naga society, he urged upon the people to stand together and pray for new Nagaland.  

Earlier, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Chang acted as the jubilee speaker while Rev. Phomlee Van, pastor Kohima Phom Baptist Church pronounced jubilee blessing. Reminiscence of the Union was shared by first president - N. Sachu John Yim.   Earlier, St. Joseph’s College Jakhama principal Fr. Dr. Sebastian Ousepparampil, representative from ENSF and president Students Council SJC shared greetings. Silver jubilee planning committee convener Lanu Chang informed that there are more than 600 Eastern Naga students studying in St. Joseph’s College. Vote of thanks was proposed by Mongtikokba Chang, president ENSU SJC Jakhama. Later, Rev. Fr. Benny, administrator SJC delivered short speech at the second session.
