Gandhi Jayanti observed across Nagaland

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 4 (MExN): Several educational institutions, government agencies and NGOs across Nagaland observed Gandhi Jayanti on October 3. They conducted various social work events to mark the day.  

DPS: Delhi Public School Dimapur initiated a series of programmes from October 1 – 2. A formal function was held during the school assembly on October 1, where students of sub-junior section conducted the programme and also performed cultural items with the life and principles of Gandhi as its theme. A social work was also undertaken by the students of Class V – VIII from the school gate till the Aoyimti junction, followed by a written quiz on the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi. A programme was also held on October 2 for the campus teachers, staff and children where Bhajans on the life of Gandhi were played.  

Shamator College: Shamator College, Tuensang celebrated the day with the theme “Life and Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi” with Limakumla Pongener, EAC Shamator as guest speaker. Quiz and painting Competition on the theme were also held during the celebration.  

DBSU: Dimapur Bengali Students Union (DBSU) organized a mass social work at NST bus stand and Railway Station at Dimapur to mark Gandhi Jayanti. Students and senior members of Bengali students participated in the programme with special initiative of Shubham Nath President DBSU and Rajat Ghosh GS DBSU. President DBSU showed interest to adopt NST bus stand under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Project in collaboration with DMC. Bengali Students Union is associated with Swachh Bharat Abhyian since it was launched in Dimapur under the leadership of Geoffrey Yaden, District Ambassador of the mission.  

PVHSS: Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School celebrated the day at Pranab Jubilee Auditorium where Principal Monoj Bhattacharjee delivered a speech about the life and philosophy of Mohandas Karam Chand Gandhi. He also appealed to the gathering to join hands to start cleanliness in their family. The Principal and Vice-Principal led the students and teachers to start cleanliness drive in and around Milan Mandir Road, Dimapur.  

Kiphire: The District Rural development Agency celebrated the day at Hopongkyu Memorial hall with Longtiba SDO (c) Kiphire as chief guest. The function was attended by students, teachers and principals of the district. Speaking at the programme, Longtiba recalled the life of Gandhi and said that he practiced what he preached and was a propagator of non-violence and asked the students present to imbibe the character of Gandhi. The chief guest also gave away the prizes to winners of the painting competition  

IQAC, Social Activities Committee Unity College: IQAC, Social Activities Committee, Unity College Dimapur visited Prodigals Home to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. The committee along with the students donated items & some financial aid.
