GoI must set ball running on Naga issue: NSCN (IM)

Editorial in NSCN (IM)’s news bulletin says GoI should be ‘sincere & fair’ on the issue of Naga flag and constitution

DIMAPUR, JUNE 17 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) in its official news bulletin has stated that it is now time for the BJP Government at the Center to “pick up the thread of the Indo-Naga political negotiation which was put on hold because of the General Election,” and set the ball rolling “in right earnest.”

In an editorial published by the MIP in the June issue of the NSCN (IM)’s new bulletin ‘Nagalim Voice,’ it stated that the Government of India now needs to “show to the Nagas that it stands committed to solve the Naga political issue for which it has signed the historic Framework Agreement.”

“It is, however, our concern that the process of continuing the Indo-Naga political negotiation should be fair and sincere without making any attempt to give different color of interpretation, particularly on the issue of Naga flag and constitution,” it added.

“To overrule the sanctity of these two symbolic issues,” the editorial said, “will go deep to hurt the sentiments of the Nagas.” “Certainly, it is the final reckoning time for the Government of India to prove her sincerity towards the Naga political solution,” it added.

The editorial termed it “heartening” to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi storming back to power with overwhelming mandate. “During his first election campaign in 2014, Modi promised to solve the Indo-Naga issue within eighteen (18) months. He did stand to his words as he exercised his political wisdom when the historic 3rd August, 2015 Framework Agreement was signed, to work out the final settlement of Indo-Naga political issue,” it recalled.

It further said that during the 2019 election campaign, BJP General Secretary, Ram Madhav during his visit to Kohima had stated that “the final Naga political settlement will take place after the 2019 General Election.”
