Government offices being run by ‘chowkidar & peon,’ alleges JSUN

Jalukie, August 18 (MExN): Various government departments and educational institutions’ officers are functioning without the concerned officer, a student union alleged today.

“Many offices are run by the chowkidar/peon under remote instruction by their head which shows wilful dereliction of duties and uncalled for government officers to abstain from their duties,” stated the Jalukie Students’ Union Nagaland (JSUN) in a press release.

The union made the discovery during its monthly visitation of offices’ under its jurisdiction, informed the release issued by JSUN President, Imzui Hingleu and General Secretary, Lungkemrakpe Nring.

“It is a proven fact that  public coming from far flung places often had to hang around for a week for a pity work due to absence of the concern officer(s) thereby losing valuable time, wages and money,” it said.

Such unnecessary harassment of innocent farmer or public has become a trend in various departments and are occurring beyond tolerable limit, it added.  In this regard, the JSUN cautioned if such unwarranted practices continue without rectification, it would be “compelled to exposed the erring office’s name, department etc publicly to the concerned department to bring justice and fairness for the interest of the general public.”

Meanwhile, the JSUN expressed its appreciation to Er L Akheto Sema, Executive Engineer (PWD) Peren for his “tremendous contribution” to the public during his brief stint of service in Peren district.

However, it informed that while he has to be transferred due of health issue, the relieving officer has not reported for duty yet despite the transfer order, dated July 22.

“The concerned department is asked to immediately complete the office procedures so as to enable the new Executive Engineer (PWD) to perform his duty in Peren without any delay,” JSUN added.
