Gram Swaraj Abhiyan: Wokha district receives 10,000 LED bulbs

Wokha, May 6 (MExN): The Departments of Rural Development and Power organized a Village Self-Government Campaign under Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (GSA) in Koio and Longla villages of Wokha district on May 4. GSA was observed from April 14 to May 5 across India with series of events held at the national, district and block levels.  

The Project Director, DRDA Wokha, Thungdeno Mozhui in the keynote address informed that 66 villages were selected under Wokha district for the programme, stated a press release.  

The Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS, apprised the villagers of the GSA programme and said seven government schemes like distribution of LPG, LED bulb, Jan Dhan Yojana, electrification and other programmes are being implemented. He also disclosed that ten thousand LED bulbs have already been received by the district, which are to be distributed to the general public at subsided rates. He warned people not to buy and resell the products.  

The DC also highlighted the importance of having bank accounts as government schemes, subsidies will be credited through Direct Benefit Transfer in their personnel accounts and without bank accounts beneficiaries will be at loss. He added that to facilitate the villagers/beneficiaries, he will have a consultative meeting with the bank officials/institutions and urged the villagers to keep their necessary documents ready.  

Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, GOI and Observer for Wokha district, Sunil Pant briefed the villagers about the various schemes and programmes proposed by the Government of India to facilitate the people. He urged to avail of the opportunity provided by the government. To uplift the livelihood of the rural populace, he stated, many schemes are introduced by the GoI and appealed to utilize them with accountability and transparency.
