Holi in Nagaland celebrated with religious fervor

Holi, the festival of colours was celebrated across Nagaland today with religious fervor and gaiety.  

In the state capital Kohima, Hindu community enthusiastically celebrated Holi at the various locations. They exchanges sweets, offer prayer and greet colours on each other faces. Business establishments run by Hindu community downed shutter to celebrate the festival.  

To mark the festival of colours and festival of love, Holi Celebration Committee, Kohima celebrated Holi at the Gorkha Public Panchayat Complex, opp Govt. Printing Press, Chandmari, Kohima.  

Several people, both young and old turned up and celebrated Holi with much zest and pomp.  

The celebration commenced with Deep Prajwalan and concluded with Holi sharing including cultural, traditional and entertainment programmes.  

Earlier, Nagaland’s governor P. B. Acharya greeted the Hindu community of the state on the occasion of Holi. Governor stated that the festival of Holi marks the arrival of spring while the many colours of Holi reflect the cultural diversity and heritage of the country.  

He challenged the people to let the festival strengthen the secular fabric of the nation and foster unity, fraternity, joy and togetherness of the people.  

Also extending best wishes, Nagaland’s chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu stated that “Holi is one of the major festivals in Hindu culture but the warmth, fun and togetherness makes this festival transcend the boundaries of culture and religion.”  

He expressed hoped that the festival celebrated with traditional fervor and gaiety will bring peace, happiness and prosperity to all.
