Khango’s peace overture should be reciprocal: Konyak Union

“Peace being the essence for all humanity and for all progress, it should be upheld by every soul”

MON, NOVEMBER 16 (MExN): The recent peace overture of the Khango Konyak group of the NSCN-K should be acknowledged and reciprocated by the Government of India without delay, stated the Konyak Union (KU). The KU issued a press release today asserting that it stands by its declared wish for peace and “its continued efforts to understand the political sentiments of India and Myanmar.”

At the same time, “the Konyak Union (KU) also aspires that both India & Myanmar reciprocate the same whereby its traditional and customary system and sentiments is also honoured.”

While noting a perceived restraint of the Naga Political Groups and the Assam Rifles posted in the customary jurisdiction of the Konyaks, it said, “Peace being the essence for all humanity and for all progress, it should be upheld by every soul so as to pave way for a lasting & inclusive solution that is acceptable to one and all.

On its part, the KU maintained that it has been striving in coordination with all the Myanmar Naga civil societies to work towards a peaceful solution for the Nagas on either side of the India-Myanmar border.

“As conveyed to R.N Ravi, the interlocutor for Naga Peace, the Konyak Union also echoes the voice of inclusiveness for those NPGs that are currently yearning for peace and those that are yet to follow up along with time.”

While acknowledged the mediatory roles played by the various Naga civil organisations, it added that the support and cooperation should be without bias and misconception.

The Political Affairs Committee of the Nagaland state government should also stand up “instead of being mute,” it said. It further directed its units to uphold the KU’s August 25 declaration as a means towards achieving the aspired goal of the people.

While calling upon the NPGs, GoI, Assam Rifles and the general public to uphold and respect the people’s sentiments, it stated that peace should prevail in the customary jurisdiction of the Konyaks.
