Longleng DPDB discusses key developmental issues

• Appeal to keep vigil and conduct ILP verification drive

• Request landowners not to hinder developmental activities

• Approves LADP 2018-19 amounting to Rs. 83.75 lakhs

Longleng, August 20 (MExN): The Longleng District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) meeting was held under the chairmanship of DPDB Chairman and Minister Health & Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom on August 18 at the DC conference hall.  

According to DIPR report, the DPDB Chairman stated that “illegal immigrants of Assam are likely to enter Longleng after the success of NRC in Assam.” Therefore, he appealed to the district administration, Police, NGOs, Church and civil society to keep vigil and conduct ILP verification drive jointly in the district.  

Minister Pangnyu also urged the locals not to "localize and harbor illegal immigrants" or approach the district administration to seek ILP on their behalf. He asked the competent authority to check ILP defaulters.  

In connection with landownership of Longleng, Pangnyu informed that landowners have been compensated for donating their land for the district headquarter. He also appealed the landowners not to create hindrance for any developmental activities.  

Deputy Commissioner, John Tsulise Sangtam thanked the officers and staffs for extending support and cooperation for the conduct of Independence Day. He also lauded the medical department, Longleng for conducting medical camp at Longleng and Tamlu under BBBP in commemoration of Independence Day celebration.  

He informed that 1159 women and girl child were registered and availed free medical facilities. The DC also appealed the heads of offices to verify the departmental proposals properly before submitting to the DPDB to ensure that all norms and criteria of the government are fulfilled.  

After reviewing the last meeting minutes and briefing on the LADP aspects by the chairman, the board unanimously approved the proposed schemes and projects submitted by the elected members under LADP 2018-19.  

The proposed projects amounted to Rs 83.75 lakh each for 49 A/C Tamlu and 50 A/C Longleng and Rs. 30 lakh under the common poll.   The meeting also recommended for opening of new schools - St. John School at Sakshi, Holy Cross School at Yongnyah and Government Primary School at Shanglu. Upgradation of Blooming Buds School, Longleng to class VIII, change of nomenclature of Mt Carmel School to Shamakok Mission School, Longleng and construction of new school building for GHSS, Longleng were also recommended under the School Education department.  

The board also approved the proposals of the Phom Peoples’ Council for establishment of new offices and upgrading of two existing offices under Longleng district.  

Creation of new offices for the District Employment Officer, Weight & Measure and Superintendent of Taxes, setting of Urban Development department and upgrading of two existing Junior Engineers’ offices of Housing and Mechanic departments to that of SDOs were other recommendations.  

Creation of additional Village guards for the new villages and pig breeding farm for Yachem, Namsang and Yongnyah blocks under veterinary department were also recommended. Upgrading of PHC Yachem to CHC under medical department was also recommended.
