Mizoram police launches CCTNS, citizens can now file complaint online

Newmai News Network Aizawl | August 16 Mizoram police has launched Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS), a citizen portal to enable people file complaint online by integrating all the 39 police stations and 52 higher offices across the state through a networking system.   The project was launched by Mizoram Director General of Police (DGP), Balaji Srivastava in four police stations in Aizawl namely, Aizawl police station, Bawngkawn police station, Vaivakawn police station and Kulikawn police station on the occasion of Independence Day.   Speaking to reporters at a press conference here, Mizoram Inspector General of Police (Intelligence & law and order) and state level nodal officer of CCTNS project, LH Shanliana said the project aims at creating comprehensive and integrated system for effective policing through E- governance using information technology. The project also aims at networking all the existing 39 police stations and 52 higher offices in the state and also providing connectivity to all 15,268 police stations across the country, he added. The police officer also said that the project will facilitate lodging online complaint by people living within the jurisdiction of the four police stations without going to police station in person. The project was one of the stepping stones for maintaining law and order within the state and will enable the police department to effectively police every citizen to create a peaceful environment, he said.   Elaborating the project, Zosangliana, superintendent of police, CID (crime) and deputy nodal officer of CCTNS said the project was one of the mission mode project under National E-governance Plan (NeGP). The idea was conceived in 2009 and was implemented in 2010 and covered 39 police stations and 52 higher offices integrated through networking system, he said. The citizen portal will be monitored 24x7 by data operators to cater citizens under the jurisdiction of four police stations, he said, adding that it will also be shortly launched in Lunglei district and other districts as well.   He further said that the project is dependent on a robust network infrastructure but due to the terrain and weather condition of the state, difficulties have been faced in providing reliable connectivity for the project. He added that police department is taking massive effort to implement Wide Area Network through NIC to improve connectivity.   The CCTNS project includes a tool called Core Application Software (CAS) which allowed police stations to perform paperless work and subsequent transition to digital policing at their respective stations.   Through CAS, all record entered in police stations are synced with the state date centre where they are centrally stored enabling easy and quick access to records from across the state and one location. The data stored at the state centre is further synced and backup at National Data Centre which enable country wide access to crime and criminal records and helps in quick identification of criminals, crime activities and linking of cases across the country.   Any citizen can access the portal through the internet from www.cctns.mizoram.gov.in/citizen to utilise the services such as employee/tenant verification, character certificate request, domestic help request, submission of complaint and search FIR.
