Modern College observes World Honeybee Day

World Honeybee Day was observed at Modern College Kohima on May 22. It was organized by Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), State Designated agency for Beekeeping and Development Programme which was spearheaded by T. Mhabemo Yanthan, secretary and team leader, NHBM along with his team members, Nzanbemo K. Lotha and Neilazono.  

Their presentation was aimed at creating awareness on the role that honeybees play for betterment of mankind in terms of health benefits, economy and ecology.  

The emphasis of the programme was mainly to create awareness about the importance of bees which play a significant role in the pollination process. In the absence of bees, the ecology is disturbed whereby humans resort to manual pollination which is strenuous and becomes impossible task for the humans.  

Apiary i.e. the Process of beekeeping requires low investment but yield high return such as employment opportunity and mass production of by-products viz. Honey, pollen, beewax, propolis, royal jelly, bee venom etc.
