The Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA) and District Administration will be running COVID-19 community kitchen from April 2 to provide meals to vulnerable section affected by the current 21-day lockdown in Mokokchung.


The community kitchen will providing meals to stranded labourers, migrants workers, daily wage earners and those people in need of food.


The idea is to provide at least square meal to those who cannot earn their daily wages due to the current lockdown, informed an MTBA member associated with the initiative to The Morung Express.


For the first day, the kitchen will be preparing meals for 100 people and the numbers will vary on need basis, he said.


The primary targets are non-local barbers, cobblers, and stranded construction and migrant workers, whose earnings are affected due to the current lockdown.


According to the member, volunteers on rotational basis from different wards under MTBA will prepare the meals for from Thursday till the end of the lockdown period.


The kitchens located at the MTBA’s premises will be opened from 11AM-1PM daily and “strict COVID-19 protocol protocols” would be followed at the kitchen. 


The MTBA is funding the initiative after suggestion from the District Administration, he added.
