Nagaland Home Guards playing active role in disaster management

The Nagaland Home Guards & Civil Defence as a twin organization under home department is providing yeoman service in the state.

Nagaland home guards are assisting the civil police for the maintenance of internal security, law and order, traffic regulation besides protection to the important installation for both central and state establishments, banks, VIP house guards, according to the annual administrative report of home department 2017-18.

The report stated that the  Home Guards & Civil Defence are extending assistance to the community during emergency situations and imparting training to the civil populous for any types of emergencies.

Training and capacity building of the civil population, the student community, NGOs and also professional training of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is being conducted by the department.

Training on disaster management related subjects are also being actively taken by the department for government functionaries, public, NCC cadets, students etc in all the districts.

The department has also imparted training to the Village Guards to form the SDRF in the village level.

The report stated that the Home Guards & Civil Defence Nagaland is playing active role in disaster management and is involved in capacity building activities and Central Institute, have been identified as nodal institute for imparting training on CSSR, MFR and awareness etc.

The SDRF drawn from the serving Home Guards & Civil Defence volunteers are trained as a special force for response to disasters, and these personnel have been stationed in the eight districts in order to respond to disaster promptly and efficiently.

Government of Nagaland has enhanced the Duty Allowances of Home Guards personnel from Rs. 150 per head per day to Rs. 520 per head per day with effect from April 2017.

With the increase of Duty Allowance, the morale of the officers and personnel has increased, the report stated.

The Home Guard and Civil Defence is also covered by the Modernization Scheme for police forces.

The report stated that with the use of this fund, remarkable improvement is being made in the areas of wireless communication, mobility and construction of infrastructure.
