Liquor seized

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 16 (MExN): The 29 Assam Rifles while conducting routine frisking recovered illicit liquor from a car at Golaghat Road, Dimapur on January 16. One person, identified as Hakim Ali (27 years), a resident of Lahorijan, was detained and handed over to the District Excise. Ali was driving the car (NL 07 6067) when it was intercepted at around 6:00 pm. 20 cases of illicit IMFL was recovered from the vehicle.

DPE condemns Jan 9 assault

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 16 (MExN): The Dimapur Pangti Ekhüng condemned, in its strongest term, the physical assault on one of its villager, Zanabemo CBO helper (electrical) on January 9 around 10pm at Chumukedima Electrical Control Room by miscreant in the duty room. A press note from the DPE stated that supply of power, when there is load shedding in the area, “is not in the pocket of the poor employee and without ascertaining the technicality such condemnable act of high handedness and taking the law in one’s hand cannot be acknowledged in the present day civilized world.” Therefore, the DPE urged upon the concerned departments to bring the culprits to book at the earliest so as to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future.

TTU demands justice
for gang rape victim


DIMAPUR, JANUARY 16 (MExN): The Tikir Tribal Union has submitted a memorandum to the District and Session Judge, Dimapur demanding immediate delivery of justice to the victim of the January 12 gang rape in Dimapur. The memo appended by the TTU President and General Secretary stated that a “fair and complete investigation” be done and that a “neutral and impartial officer” be given charge of the investigation and preparation of the charge sheet. It further appealed that no bail should be granted to the accused, in view of the seriousness of the crime, and that serious action be taken against the accused persons promptly. The TTU cautioned that it would initiate further necessary steps if justice is not delivered promptly.
