Nagaland State records lowest immunization coverage in country

Peren, October 6 (MExN): The District Task Force meeting on Intensified Mission Indradanush (IMI) was held on October 5 at Conference Hall, Deputy Commissioner Office, District Headquarter Peren. The programme was chaired by Sarita Yadav, IAS, SDO (CIVIL) Peren.  

Officials of various departments from Chief Medical Office, District Hospital Peren, School Education, District Welfare Office, Rural Development and representative from KBA attended the meeting.  

Dr. Khrielasanuo, DPO, RCH/UIP stated that “Nagaland has the lowest immunization coverage in the whole country” and thus this IMI is focusing in the entire 11 district. She also highlighted on how and what is to be done during the IMI. She highlighted that this IMI planning is done according to actual Head count and thus the due list is calculated with the proper list of missed out and drop out children. This IMI is not only focusing on the hard to reach areas but also in the urban areas.

She also urged the Anganwadi workers for their support in helping out and thus requests the District welfare Department for their support and cooperation. She also said that there is a huge communication gaps in disseminating the right information to the grassroot level and thus urged the rural department to coordinate and give full assistant in carrying out the task in reaching out to the villages. She highlighted that the Village council play a very important role in disseminating awareness. She also urged the Education Department for their help and support in the schools in creating awareness to the teachers and the parents and students in general. She also called upon all the church leaders and NGO’s in creating awareness to reach out to each and every individual that no child is missed out during this campaign. She also urged the District Administration for their help and support in making this campaign a success.  

Attending the meeting, Imli Longkumer, Project Office, UNDP gave a power point presentation highlighting the various aspects of IMI for Peren District- No of sessions planned- 51, Targeted areas- 40, Target 0-2 population- 1673, Target Pregnant women- 279 and No of active ANM’s- 43.  

Thereafter, discussion was held where various suggestions were put forward- convergence with the Social welfare department to distribute the nutrition supplements on the VHND- collaborate with the CDPO’s to conduct training on Boosting routine immunization demand generation (BRIDGDE) to the AWWs and ASHA’s, social mobilization activities such as sensitization meeting with the church leaders and public leaders.  

A press release from the medical officer of Peren District CMO stated that the next DTF meeting is fixed on November 2.
