NDPP urges Centre to include protective provisions for NE

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 4 (MExN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) today appealed to the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, to uphold his previous assurances that provisions will be included in the existing CAB in order to protect the rights of the people of the NE and that the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in force in the NE states will be incorporated in bill.

A press release from the NDPP urged that necessary changes be inserted in the CAB before it is tabled in the Parliament by the Government of India. Expressing confidence that the Centre would safe guard the rights of the NE people, it reiterated the stand of the Nagaland CM, the Government of Nagaland and the NDPP led PDA that the state is protected from the CAB by the provisions of Article 371(A) and the ILP regime under the BEFR 1873.

Stating that this assertion is "vindicated" by the Union Home Minister's statement, the NDPP assured it would not jeopardize the rights of the people.
