NFHRCC: Will stick to the original foothills road alignment

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 23 (MExN): The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) issued a press release on February 23 reiterating its commitment to stick to the original Nagaland Foothills Road alignment. The release informed that the NFHRCC convened a meeting with tribal hohos in Dimapur today to clarify doubts that arose recently with regard to route alignment in the Ralan area, Wokha.

“After a lengthy discussion and deliberations, the house resolved to re-affirm its stand on the approved NFHRCC original alignment,” stated the release. As originally agreed when the foothills road initiative started, it asserted that the route alignment was prepared to avoid touching the “super sensitive areas” bordering Assam or the ‘Disputed Area Belts’ along the Assam-Nagaland inter-state border.

This was done inorder to avoid “any unwanted obstructions” from Assam pending the Assam-Nagaland border dispute, which is being heard in the Supreme Court.

It further informed that a meeting will be held on February 28 at the NFHRCC office in Dimapur at 11:00 am. The contractor- M/S Trident Enterprises and Associates, the State PWD (Roads & Bridges) and the tribal hohos have been invited to attend the meeting “for certain clarification on the work allocated in the Ralan Area,” it added.

Originally known as the Nagaland Foothills Road, it was rechristened as the Nagaland Trans-Expressway in 2018 after the Nagaland state government pledged to get Central aid.
