NSF honours HSLC Naga toppers

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) felicitated the HSLC Naga toppers on June 3 at Zonal Council Hall with Pankaj Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary as the chief guest.  

To interact with young minds is always exciting, mentioned Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar citing the importance of the hopeful nature and enthusiasm of young people. Impressed by the ambitions shared by the toppers ranging from Astrophysicists to Neurologists, the Chief Secretary said, “There is no doubt, as time pass on, young generations today are definitely smarter and more aware.”  

The importance of reflecting back and processing on the pros and cons of a working towards an achievement was highlighted. For a student, to be successful you must have a goal, asserted Kumar which he outlined need not be a big goal but small goals that can be completed on a daily basis- small goals such as trying to analyze what is being taught in class, completing one’s homework on time, maintaining a position in class. By completing goals a day at a time, one is keeping pace with what is expected of as a student. Thinking and planning ahead is what makes a successful student.  

“When you rise and attain the peak, you see new goals. Things are not very clear in the beginning. There will be new peaks that will come if you keep on scaling these peaks, you will achieve your full potentials,” affirmed Kumar who also mentioned the importance of the role played by parents and teachers. “It is not important to be always a topper but it is important to continue to do well,” concluded Kumar who hoped that the toppers will contribute to society and built a career for themselves.  

Subenthung Kithan, President, NSF who gave the Presidential address lauded the toppers for making the Nagas proud. “This is just the tip of the iceberg. You have many more things to achieve,” asserted Kithan who urged the toppers not to carry the ego of their achievement but to fear God and acknowledge Him in all achievements.  

A speech on behalf of the toppers was delivered by Phepon P. Meya. While admitting that achieving the top positions is a pleasure, Meya who secured the Top 6 in the HSLC exams mentioned that these achievements were not easy to attain. Referring to the exam as an obstacle race, Meya stated that the toppers had to sacrifice their time and leisure, and worked harder than the rest to reach their goals. The young topper also called upon her fellow toppers to continue to work harder so that together they can bring change to the Naga society.  

The toppers were felicitated with citations and gifts. Altogether 28 Naga toppers were felicitated, 27 toppers from the Nagaland Board of School Education and 1 Naga topper from the Manipur Board of School Education.
