AN OPPORTUNITY TO GROW IN LIFE

Puru Kichu,

Assistant Professor, Department of Management (BBA)

What exactly is Management about? Is it necessary only for large corporate companies? Is it required only for private enterprises or for businesses only? These are some thoughts that may cross the minds of many. However, we opine that these are only a part of the wide area of management.

In this series of short papers, C-Edge College with the initiative of Management Department will draw out and illustrate the necessity and applications of management skills.

Sir John Harvey-Jones states “Management, above everything else, is about PEOPLE. It is about the accomplishment of ends and aims by the efforts of groups of people working together. The people and their individual hopes and skills are the greatest variable and the most important one.”

In fact, man is the first syllable in management. Technology makes things possible but it is the people who make it happen... Management can be said to be ‘deciding what to do and getting it done’. Success in business (Broader sense, business includes government, entrepreneurs, company, organisation, family and Churches etc) stems from good quality management decisions first of all, and then the effectiveness in implementation which depends on the skills of leadership, communication, influencing and motivation. This are the knowledge and skills we learn by studying management degree course like BBA/MBA degree.
