PAC wants clarity on rightful authority to regulate the market prices in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 19 (MExN): The Public Action Committee (PAC) has appealed the district administration to notify the public as to who is the rightful authority to control/regulate the market prices to oversee and regulate in Dimapur.

In a press statement, PAC co-convener Gokheto and secretary Hilo Semp stated that during a discussion with DMC and Food & Civil Supply Department, it came to light that prices are controlled and regulated by three departments-DMC, Food & Civil Supply Department in coordination with DCCI for which there is apparent fluctuation of prices in the market.

This scenario also provides a good haven to the syndicates, leases and other agencies to encroach and inflate the market prices as per their conveniences, the PAC maintained while adding that since 2012 till date, the authority has not revised the market prices of essential commodities.

The PAC also urged the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to immediately display charts of all commodities in all the designated toll booths. At the same time collections of toll tax at any undesignated toll booth/points should be immediately withdrawn or stopped immediately.

PAC, while reviewing the prices of different commodities in its meeting with the transporters, the latter claimed that the price of Deopani sand has been dropped down by Rs 4000 per truck load. It further claimed that prices of other essential commodities also have come down due to the prevention of illegal taxation during the past four days.

The PAC also re-affirmed its earlier decision on royalty collection by Forest Department and Geology & Mining while stating that it will not allow collection(s) of royalty by the two departments until the government gives a clear decision and make known the outcome to the public.

In this regard, it has requested the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur to take immediate action on the representation submitted by the PAC.
