Politically motivated elements creating confusion on new districts creation: ZYF

Imphal, September 24 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) today said that “some elements supposedly sponsored by political party and politicians” are out to create confusion among general public by raising unnecessary demands.   “The fact of the matter is that the Zeliangrong and the Naga people who are the owners of their ancestral land have been strongly opposing the Manipur Govt. for arbitrarily creating new districts last year without the consent and knowledge of the Zeliangrong and Naga people,” ZYF said in a press statement from its Publicity Wing.   The current tripartite talk on the districts creation issue involving Government of India, Government of Manipur, and the United Naga Council, the Naga apex organization in the State of Manipur, is in recognition of Naga people’s strong objection and the stand of the Naga people, it said.   However, ZYF alleged that the aforesaid elements are trying to create confusion and discord amongst the people by demanding and raising unnecessary as well as unrealistic issue through submitting memoranda etc before the Government of Manipur “knowingly or unknowingly the limitations of the State Government.”   “The unnecessary noise created by politically motivated elements instrumental by politicians by way of floating forums or associations in the name of different nomenclatures may have their own policy and intention to discredit the present government,” the ZFY said.   However, the front stated that those elements “does not represent the interest and sentiment of the Zeliangrong people and Tamenglong district since the Zeliangrong and the Naga people have totally rejected the creation of new districts.”   In this regard, ZYF asserted that in the interest of the people and to safeguard and protect the ancestral land and its natural resources, it will take up “appropriate steps as and when required.”   On the issue of Autonomous District Council issue, the ZYF maintained that Zeliangrong and the Naga people had strongly opposed the holding of ADC election held in 2010 by the previous state government knowing well of their “sinister” design.   “The Act which was amended by the previous government totally violated the rights and interest of the tribal people,” it alleged.   In this regard, the ZYF asserted that any issues - particularly new districts creation and ADC - raised by some groups based on electoral politics is not related to Zeliangrong people and Tamenglong district.   “The ZYF advised those elements and groups not to drag the people and the name of Tamenglong district unnecessarily in their craving for sectional interest,” the statement added.
