PTYS launches paper bags at Phek town

Phek, November 1 (MExN): The Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS) under the Clean Green Operation formally launched the paper bags (thonga) at Phek on November 1.  

Launching the thonga, DC Phek Kovi Meyase lauded the PTYS for introducing paper bags in the town and added that it will not only improve environment but also create employment opportunities for the unemployed youths. He also remarked that the ban imposed on plastic by the PTYS was historic in Nagaland.  

Speaking at the programme, Nuyi Hoshi, convenor, Clean Green Operation highlighted on the objective of thonga project and urged the citizens of Phek Town to utilize paper bags. Velatso Demo, District Forest Officer (DFO) Phek stated that due to flimsy disposal of plastics people are exposed to chemicals plastic multiple times through the air, dust, water, food and degenerated our health and environment. Kevichusa, Vice President of Phek Chamber of Commerce and Industries (PCCI) Phek welcomed the introduction of paper bags in the town and extended support to the youths.  

Mhathung Tsanglao ADC Phek, Chaired the programme, Nusakho Chiero Associate Pastor, PTBC said prayer and Neizote Venuh PTYS President pronounced vote of thanks.  

Initially, PTYS engaged about 40 unemployed youths on full time basis and several hundred on part time to make paper bag, where the youth workers were expected to earn Rs. 7000/- to 12,000/- per month based on their efficiency.  

The PTYS, in a press release stated that the society has received freewill donation from the Deputy Commissioner, Phek, ADC, Phek and well wishers and other resources required for the project.  

PTYS also disclosed that the society is planning to do more doable assignment in the upcoming years and also planning to supply its production items to the neighboring towns if it thrives well.  

Meanwhile, the PTYS requests PCCI Phek not to sell or use plastic bags and also notified that there will be a total destruction of plastic bags on November 30 and after which if any persons found using or carry plastic bags shall be panelized according to PTYS resolution.
