Purana Bazar ‘B’ Village celebrates 75 years

Purana Bazar ‘B’ Village celebrated its 75 years of existence here at the village ground on December 9 with minister for Horticulture and DB&GB, Kejong Chang, gracing the celebration as chief guest.  

The chief guest who unveiled jubilee monolith said the occasion was a milestone for the villagers who had undergone lots of hardships due to non-recognition of the village for many years.  

Kejong said now that the village has reached maturity and also finally recognized by the state government, the villagers must work collectively to ensure that they get the infrastructure, facilities and schemes from the government.  

S Shingnyu Khiam, advisor (Political) to the chief minister, who released the platinum jubilee souvenir, urged the villagers to forget and forgive past differences and mistakes and to work with renewed vigour for development and welfare of the village.  

Chairman, Purana Bazar ‘B’ Village, Kiyezhe Yeptho, in his welcome address said the village has presently around 500 families comprising of different tribes and communities living in peaceful co-existence.  

Convenor, editorial board committee, L Temjen Longkumer, and head GB, Khogen Mech, gave brief accounts of the village since its establishment way back in1942.  

According to them, the Purana Bazar ‘B’ Village was originally a Mech Kachari village established during the British time and from 1942 to 1986, the village elders looked after affairs of the village. In 1981, the village got the first government appointed GB and finally, the village was given official recognition by the state government in 2016. Convenor, Platinum Jubilee, Toivi Aye, proposed vote of thanks.
