Reasons for dismal performance of Govt. Schools

Recently I posted on the facebook page ‘Naga Discussion Forum’ asking the reasons behind the poor performance of government schools. Here are some of the response. •    Poor administration and lack of regulations for the errant teachers •    Govt apathy towards quality education is one of the main concerns. I hope there is many more •    No commitment. Just doing it to fill the stomach •    In most of the schools proxy trend is still continuing. And specially in the rural places this is worse because of lack of educated people, Who are not Even class 10 qualified are teaching as proxy 1.    Lack of responsibility on the part of teachers (at the same not denying the presence of dedicated and responsible teachers). 2.    Less responsible students...koibat nahi hun chalega...(free education so who cares...gov.t money to) 3.    Lack of competition among students...no competition no fruit 4.    Low self esteem of the students (the general opinion that those in gov.t school comprises of poor and weak students -financially and intellectually - the thinking that private school students are better than them) 5.    Lack of proper teaching aids of the teachers

Many more do exists... •    Poor performances in examinations are mainly due to the failure on the part of the students themselves and not the teachers. Teachers can only show the way, it is the students who have to walk the way to reach the destination •    The hard fact is that govt teachers give more importance to their salaries not the students' performance...why don't the teachers go on strike bout mismanagement of midday meals or delay of school books or other facilities of the students? why they only can go for strike bout their salaries..every teacher must know the real meaning of a teacher only after that govt schools can bring better performance. •    And one more thing a leader must lead the people by example so saying that the ministers n bureaucrats must start sending their children to govt schools and all the people will follow suit... •    We can't blame to only one party. we have to see both side of the coin before concluding. Why many government schools get nil in board exam in not a new thing or topic that we are debating but till today we didn't get concrete reason. Let me also share my personal view on it.   Poor Foundation: The main reason might be poor foundation. We shouldn't expect High School or Higher Sec. Teachers to change someone's life in one go but we have to know that if we don't have a strong foundation, it collapsed in a half way. The same is applied to government institutions, where many students, who starts their studies from govt. Primary school don't lay their foundation very strong. Hence, they are collapsed without able to survive from main calamities.   Proxy: Another Reason might be practice of Proxy. The proxy system exist in every part of the state but the state government shows no serious to deal the issue. Just think, a graduate teachers giving his replacement (proxy) a person who is PU failed to teach High School students. So how can we expect the good results?   Irresponsible Parents: I blame parents as well because many parents don't care about their wards and many a times, they, the parents live under the ward's control.   Political Interference: An interference by the politicians also have lot of negative impact in education system. Allowing their party men to go deputation leaving his post vacant until his term in a deputed post are over. Also random appointment by the politicians to fulfill his election promise, have a numerous impact in our educational system. Poor performance by the Government school in 10 and 12 exam is a serious issue that everyone need to ponder upon.   The cited points may not be relevant but I feel if the mentioned points are check carefully than there might be some changes in a coming days.   Kevitho Kera
