Rüzhükhrie GHSS celebrates 75 years

The Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School (RGHSS) Kohima today celebrated its platinum jubilee with Minister for School Education & SCERT Yitachu and Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports, Music Task Force and State Lotteries Khriehu Liezietsu as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.  

Speaking on the occasion, Yitachu urged the teachers and students to have a resolute commitment and make Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School Kohima the first school to provide world class quality education. “We need to maintain the standard, prestige and aim and objective of this institution,” he said adding the teachers should take responsibility in imparting quality education and take pride over the success of the students.  

He stated that the school contribution is admirable ever since its inception till date and sincerely felt that with the same zeal and enthusiasm, the school will continue to contribute to the people and the Nagas in general.  

Khriehu Liezietsu, who also released the souvenir, lauded the school for invaluable contribution and imparting quality education and widening the horizon of our people. He said RGHSS Kohima is undoubtedly one of the few Government schools that have thrived over the years and its holds pride in producing some of the most competent leaders and officers among Nagas today.  

Kohima Deputy Commissioner and School Managing Board Chairman Rovilato Mor said RGHSS is a premier institution in the field of education in the state adding that it had produced countless prominent citizens during the last 75 years. He said apart from general education, this school has taken heavy responsibility in imparting science education. He also looks forward continuous support from each and every individual so that the statuses of being the premier institution is strengthened and take the school forward.  

Rev. Dr. Atsi Dolie, Executive Director Angami Baptist Church Council wishes the school to continue to perform well for the upcoming generation.  

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by RGHSS headmaster Kepelhoutuo Chiisi while vote of thanks as proposed by RGHSS principal Lebu Krose.  

Naga People’s Front (NPF) President Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu, Parliamentary Secretary for New & Renewable Energy and Fire & Emergency Services Toyang Chang, Parliamentary Secretary for Higher & Technical Education Deo Nukhu and several other dignitaries also present on the occasion.  

‘We need quality education’

Minister for school education & SCERT Yitachu today underscored the need to have quality education in the state. “We have enough schools, enough teachers. We are not run short of infrastructure as so many buildings have come up on mission mood through SSA, RMSA, NEC and DONER,” he said.  

He however regretted that quality education was lacking and stressed on the need to address the same. Addressing the platinum jubilee celebration of Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, Yitachu stressed that quality education should be given on cheap and affordable way and not expensive one. He said for wholesome progress, cheap and world class education has to be given.  

He maintained that quality life will come when there is quality education. Stressing on the need to maintain civic sense and to keep our environment and surrounding clean, he said clean environment keep our mind, our thought, our attitude and our relationship clean. In this, he emphasized on the need to give proper education to the citizen.  

The minister also said that a sense of responsibility is required in all spheres and activities of life. He however regretted that very often, we try to shift our responsibility and try to come with many excuses. “Excuses don’t promote system and don’t bring positive change,” he said.  

He said that accepting the harsh reality, to meet the challenges and to overcome many challenges is the only way to emerge progress and prosperity.
