Sainik School Punglwa 11th annual sports meet underway

  Peren, November 10 (MExN): The 11th Annual Sports Meet of Sainik School Punglwa started off with a marathon on November 10. Gp Capt Sharad R Keskar, Principal, SSP who graced the opening ceremony as chief guest formally unfolded the event marking the commencement of the annual sports meet. The opening ceremony witnessed a well synchronised march past followed by oath taking ceremony by the house captains. Thereafter, he flagged off the tough event of Marathon.   SSP in a press release stated that in the opening day, a 5000 mtr marathon run which is a true test of individuals’ robustness, physical endurance and stamina was conducted wherein cadets from the six senior houses participated with great verve and vitality in the competition. Cdt Roshan Kumar bagged the top spot with a timing of 17:04 minutes breaking the previous year record of Cdt Tapan Kodak (17:05 minutes). Cdt Tamar Mara and Cdt Sonu Kumar secured the second and third positions with timings of 21:02 minutes and 22:05 minutes respectively.   To encourage and motivate the junior cadets, class XII, the senior most cadets of the school also took part in the event. Cdt Abhisek Pandey completed his run in 15: 51 minutes and secured the first position. Cdt Abenthung Kikon and Cdt Saurav Kumar secured second and third positions respectively with timings of 16:56 minutes and 17:00.   The marathon run was also organised for staff wherein there was an active participation from them. In men’s category for staff, Keshav Adhikary Chhetry secured the first position with timing of 21: 35 minutes whereas Mr Roland and Mr Khingyingba have to satisfy with the second and third positions with timings of 21:56 minutes and 27:47 minutes respectively. In ladies category 3000 meters run, Keringgumle Hau also broke the previous year record of Sangeeta (25:31mins) and stood first with a timing of 20:08 minutes. Angaule Kenzwakpe and Mrs Amenla Changki secured second and third positions with timings of 21:54 and 22:04 minutes respectively.
