Section 144 CrPC clamped in Chungtia

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 14 (MExN): With tension brewing between supporters of opposing candidates, the Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung on Wednesday clamped Section 144 CrPC in Chungtia Village.

The order prohibits the assembly of 5 or more persons from 6am till 6 pm. The order which came into effect from February 14 onwards until further notice also restricted carrying of fire arms, lathis, explosive materials or any such items.  

The order which was issued by ADC W Manpai Phom said there was information of possible breach of peace, disturbance to public tranquility and damage to public properties in the said village area which falls under 28 Assembly Constituency.  

The order also stated that unknown miscreants and disgruntled persons may attempt to create disorder and trouble in Chungtia village area and thereby interfere in the smooth and fair conduct of elections.  

The order shall not apply to government officials involved in the conduct of elections and maintenance of law and order and essential services.
