Swachhagrahi Divas held across Tuensang district

Tuensang, September 26 (MExN): The “Swachhagrahi ke Swachhagrahi Ek se Anek Divas” was conducted in 119 villages under Tuensang district led by the Swachhagrahis of each village. Seminars and Swachhatta Shramdaan were also conducted at village levels through activities like cleaning of village primary health centers, Anganwadi centers, schools, homes, village surroundings etc on September 25, a press release informed.  

A Swachhagrahi Orientation cum Training on Geo Tagging, Sustainable Sanitation and Waste Management was conducted at Tuensang town CKS Hall, organized by the DWSM, PHED Tuensang division and sponsored by WSSO, PHED Kohima on September 24.  

Speaking at the programme, JE PHED Tuensang Division Er Khaoshai Lam stated that Swachhagrahis plays a very important role in bringing about the behavioral change in the community through interaction and rapport building.  

He also maintained that an effective Swachhagrahi must have skill and experience to mobilize people to eliminate the practice of open defecation, adding that poor sanitation can lead to health hazard which causes lots of diseases like diarrhoea, typhoid, malaria etc.  

Ashale Seb, while speaking on waste management stated that one must practice the habit of using dustbins and how to segregate wastes into bio degradable and non bio-degradable waste. She also emphasized on 4 Rs - reduce the daily waste product, reuse materials more than once, recycle our waste to make new products, and recover energy and metals from waste and safe disposal of waste to landfill area.  

If everyone can inculcate these 4Rs then the environment will be hygienic and free from pollution, Seb noted.  

Er S Akangjonghi, JE, PHED Tuensang division iimparted training on Geo- tagging. Er. Shede Swuro, JE, PHED Tuensang division chaired the programme, Noksensangla Swachhagrahi Tuensang village invoked the prayer, the release further informed.
