Training on Climate Change held in Wokha

Wokha, May 23 (MExN): Wokha Forest Division in a first kind of its own organised one day training on Climate Change and hands on demonstration of nursery and plantation techniques for jhum farmers of Wokha District under National Adaptation Fund for Climate Change (NAFCC) at Forest Colony Community Hall, Wokha.

Zuthunglo Patton, IFS, DFO Wokha sensitised the farmers on the impacts of Climate Change at the Global level, the National and State level and its effects on Wokha District and adaptation strategies involving tree plantations and increasing Forest Cover with involvement of communities and farmers.

Rosemary Ezung, SDAO Wokha stressed on gene pool conservation of indigenous rice varieties for promoting livelihood and food security which was followed by discussion and interaction hour.

Later, hands on demonstration & trail on plantation techniques of varieties of tree saplings was exhibited by Y.Tokiho Sema, FR and Nursery Techniques, maintenance and practices was explained by Khonbemo Lotha, FR-II. 

The programme was chaired by Vivika A. Sema, FR and vote of thanks was pronounced by Janbemo Ezung, Dy. R. Over 100 jhum farmers both men and women from Chukitong (Koio), Tsungiki and Wokha Villages attended the training.
